for Living the REAL Life
Michelle Tonnemacher first started her design training while in middle school by taking a commercial art class at a community college. All through high school, she attended art classes and created posters and programs for the drama and music departments. While studying art and music education at Grand Valley State University, Michelle realized that she wanted to advance into a career of art.
After a move to Ann Arbor, Michigan, Michelle was employed by a lithographers where she learned traditional 4 color negative stripping, layout, plus book and plate making thus advancing her knowledge of the printing business. With the addition of computers in the workfield, college courses were taken to improve her knowledge of our ever-changing technology.
While learning computer programs, design work became a natural part of her knowledge, therefore staying in the design field. From her internship with Jackson Community College, she was offered the position of Head Graphic Designer for the college. Since completion of her degree, Michelle has worked in advertising, in printing, and in marketing, and as a freelance artist, and is now expanding her knowledge to website design.
